School System
Fairfax County Public School System is the 12th largest in the country, with approximately 150,000 students enrolled and approximately 17,000 full-time staff members. The school budget accounts for 51% of Fairfax County's total annual operating expenditures (see BUDGET).
Main administration office, including the offices of the Superintendent and of the Board, is located at 10700 Page Avenue, Fairfax 22030, 246-2991. Administration is divided into three geographic areas, as well as into functional areas.
Area One office is located at 6520 Diana Lane, Alexandria 22310 329-2500. The Area One Superintendent is Dr. Don Sheldon.
School Board is is composed of twelve members and a non-voting student representative. One member is elected from each magisterial district and three are elected at large (by all the voters). Their four-year terms extend through December 1999. For our representative, see ELECTED OFFICIALS.
