Supervisors
Powers of government of FAIRFAX COUNTY* are vested in our elected Board of Supervisors ((401**) consisting of nine members ((402**) elected by the voters of their districts and a chairman elected at-large by all county voters. Supervisors' terms are four years. Incumbent board members were elected in 1995 and serve through December 1999.
Chairman of the Board of Supervisors is the ranking elected official of the county and its ceremonial head, presiding at board meetings and voting equally with other supervisors, but not having executive authority or legislative veto. Incumbent Chairman is Katherine K. Hanley, whose office is at the Fairfax GOVERNMENT CENTER*. See ELECTED OFFICIALS.
Mount Vernon District Supervisor is Gerry Hyland whose office is at the Mount Vernon GOVERNMENT CENTER*, telephone 780-7518. See ELECTED OFFICIALS.
Board Meetings ((404**) are held Monday mornings, from 9:30, an average of twice a month. They are broadcast on cable channel 16, first live and then rebroadcast the following Saturday.
Meeting agendas are published ten days in advance in the WEEKLY AGENDA*.
